The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has confirmed that the Socceroos will play their third AFC Asian Qualifiers – Road to Qatar â„¢ game (final round) against Oman in Doha, Qatar on Thursday, October 7, 2021.

The Socceroos will return to Khalifa International Stadium – the same place where Australia beat China PR 3-0 on Matchday 1 – next week as the team’s journey to Qatar 2022 continues.

Socceroos head coach Graham Arnold believes the result of playing in Qatar is good for the team, with the familiar environment at Khalifa International Stadium being positive for the group as the Socceroos cannot return in Australia for the game in early October.

“We have played a lot of matches in the Middle East over the past few years and have built a strong record in the region,” said Arnold.

“We are once again very grateful to the government of Qatar and the Qatar Football Association for allowing us to play this game on neutral territory in Doha. This arrangement provides an interim solution for the Socceroos before they resume playing our home playoffs, which we expect in November.

Playing at the Khalifa International Stadium on a fantastic pitch and in an air-conditioned environment will again be great for our team, providing a perfect platform for performance as we look to continue our journey towards the FIFA World Cup of the year. next with another victory.

Football Australia, working with the New South Wales government, recently announced that Commonwealth Bank Matildas will host Brazil in a two-game series in New South Wales on October 23-26 at CommBank Stadium in Parramatta.

As the Socceroos Asian Qualifiers – Road to Qatar â„¢ (final round) match against Oman arrives too early for clearances to be received to play this home match, Football Australia is confident that the Matildas two-match friendly series will be staged in home, will help pave the way for the Socceroos to play the Asian playoffs in New South Wales from November.

The Socceroos are expected to welcome Saudi Arabia to Australia on November 11 with advanced talks with the NSW government underway so that game can be played in Australia.

Football Australia will announce the Socceroos squad for the October Australian qualifiers for the AFC Asian Qualifiers – Road to Qatar â„¢ (Final Round) against Oman and Japan later this week.
