Bhaichung Bhutia has lodged his new nomination as the president of the Football Association of India

Amid the turbulent activities of the Football Federation of India regarding the filing of candidacy for the election of the executive committee, Indian football poster boy Bhaichung Bhutia has filed his new nomination for the post of president.

Sources close to the development told IANS that his appointment was proposed by the Andhra Football Association and seconded by the Rajasthan Football Association.

Following the dissolution of the Committee of Trustees (CoA), as required by the International Football Association (FIFA), the returning officer on Tuesday released new dates for the Indian Football Federation (AIFF) Executive Committee elections.

After the order from the SC, returning officer Umesh Sharma had said that the election would be held on September 2 at the AIFF headquarters in Delhi and the results could be announced on September 2 or 3.

Applications for the positions can be submitted between August 25 and 27 while the ballot will take place on August 28, the returning officer said.

Candidates will have the opportunity to withdraw their candidacy on August 29 while the returning officer will prepare the final list of contenders and post it on the AIFF website on August 30.
