Chelsea in talks to beat Man City to ‘incredible’ Football League star

Peterborough United Director of Football Barry Fry has confirmed to the Peterborough Telegraph that Chelsea are interested in signing defender Ronnie Edwards.

The 19-year-old has been part of The Posh’s impressive start to the season, currently with six points after two Ligue 1 return games.

He was one of former manager Darren Ferguson’s favorites during the club’s time in the Championship, with him describing the defender as “amazing”.

Fry claimed Chelsea were one of several Premier League sides interested in Edwards, with Manchester City were previously linked with a move for the centre-back.

However, Fry confirmed the Blues had gone to the youngster recently, potentially putting them ahead of their rivals in a deal hunt.

Chelsea in talks for Edwards

He said: “I’ve had conversations with people at Chelsea who are in the know and who would be involved in any decision-making. They came to watch Lucas, but they were taken away by Ronnie. They haven’t made an offer yet. , but there are three weeks left before the transfer window closes. They certainly like him.

“Virtually the whole Premier League knows Ronnie and it’s interesting to see members of his England Under-19 squad getting attention now. Chelsea signed one last week and Southampton have just made a big offer for another I’ve had big clubs ask to be kept informed if anyone makes an offer for Ronnie.

“Our position on Ronnie remains the same. You’re going to have to make a big offer to get it and we’ll try to make sure it gets sent straight back to us.

The signing would see Todd Boehly continue to show he has his eye on the future as Chelsea owner.

The club have already signed Carney Chukwuemeka and Gabriel Slonina, both of whom are destined to star in the coming years.

Loaning Edwards to his current club would also be great for his development, with minutes likely to be in short supply at Stamford Bridge.
