Georgia football recruiting: Four-star DB Joenel Aguero commits to Bulldogs over Florida, Miami and Ohio State

After a national championship and, more recently, a record contract extension, Georgia coach Kirby Smart has also scored another W in the recruiting column. Joenel Agueroa four-star safety hopeful from St. John’s Prep in Lynn, Massachusetts, has announced his commitment to Georgia and Coach Kirby Smart Saturday live on CBS Sports HQ. Aguero chose the Bulldogs over the finalists of Florida,Miami and ohio state.

“I fell like that was it…the first time I went there, I fell in love with the place and the grind,” Aguero said. “[The coaching staff] they can get you to the NFL, and that’s the point.”

Aguero is the No. 28 player overall and the second safest prospect for the Class of 2023, according to 247Sports. The 6-foot, 195-pounder should be a next-level starter according to Brian Dohn, national recruiting analyst for 247Sports.

“Frame to play between 195 and 205 in college,” Dohn wrote in Aguero’s scouting report. “Elite safety prospect who has the ability to receive. Missed part of first season with ankle injury. Overwhelming physical ability on Massachusetts high school scene. Can play in box or cover. Game aggressive downhill Excellent body control Breaks down and changes direction Accelerates quickly and has top speed Shows closing speed Plays physical Must continue to develop coaster and hip flexibility to open and run in depth. Must develop man coverage skills to cover the slot. Multi-year high-level starter Power 5 school.”

Aguero is the 16th player to commit to Smart in the current recruiting cycle. His promise lifts the Bulldogs from No. 6 to No. 3 in the 247Sports team recruiting rankings.
