Harper Creek Announces Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2022


The Harper Creek Athletic Hall of Fame will induct its 11th class during festivities surrounding the Harper Creek vs. Jackson Northwest football game on Friday.

Harper Creek will induct a class of eight members, including Mitchell Bailey, Braden Black, Trevor Blattner, Jordan Berning, Connor Gould, Donna (Craig) Halferty, Deb Look and TJ Hoard.

The meeting begins at 4:00 p.m. Friday at the Harper Creek High School Library, with the official ceremony at 4:30 p.m. The public is welcome. Nominees will also be showcased at the college football game.

Mitchell Bailey – Class of 2012

Mitchell Bailey stood out in three sports, competing in football, basketball and track and field. He would go on to play football at Olivet College, earning all-conference honors, a league championship, and was voted the team’s MVP. In high school, he won all-city and football-league honors, all-city basketball honors, and ranked first in the long jump conference. He was a key player on a district and regional football championship team and voted MVP by his teammates.

Braden Black – Class of 2012

A football and baseball star, Braden Black went on to a record-breaking career as a quarterback at Olivet College. Black became the all-time leader in passing yards and passing touchdowns at Olivet and was named league MVP in helping the Comets win a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association title. In high school, Black was All-City, All League, and team captain in football and baseball. His soccer team won a league title and a district and regional crown on the way to the state semifinals.

Trevor Blattner

Trevor Blattner – Class of 2011

A star of three sports at Harper Creek, Trevor Blattner later became a standout football player at Saginaw Valley State University. At SVSU, Blattner helped the team win a league title and advance to the NCAA Division II playoffs as a starting linebacker. In high school, Blattner stood out in football, basketball and baseball. In football, he was All-City and All-League twice and helped the team win a district title and was voted MVP. He was also All-City and All-League baseball and won a district crown.

Jordan Bernini

Jordan Berning – Class of 2012

Remarkable in several sports, Jordan Berning had his greatest success in the spring when he was All-State on the track. Along the way, he helped the Beavers win a regional title in men’s track, while earning all-league honors in the long jump, 400 relay, 800 relay and 1600 relay. In football, he was All-City and All-League as a receiver, leading the team in receptions and helping Harper Creek win a league title, as well as district and regional crowns. He was also a team captain on the basketball team and was voted “Defensive MVP” twice.

Connor Gould

Connor Gould – Class of 2011

A high school and college winner, Connor Gould had a stellar career in college football, helping Grand Valley State University win three straight conference championships and a Division II national semifinal berth as he rose to prominence. Academic All-American at school. In high school, Gould was a three-sport star in football, basketball, and baseball. He won all-city and all-football league honors, helping the team win a league title and also earning all-state honors as a senior. Twice drafted in all cities and all baseball leagues, he was the team’s most valuable player as a senior and participated in two district championships.

Donna (Craig) Halferty

Donna (Craig) Halferty – Class of 1988

A three-sport star in high school, Donna Halferty also played two sports in college at Western Michigan University, excelling in both track and basketball. In high school, Halferty was both All-City and All-League in volleyball, basketball, and track and field. She was voted the team’s MVP and led the Beavers to a municipal title, a league championship, and a district crown in volleyball. She was also MVP of her basketball and track and field teams. On the track, she graduated as a school record holder in disc.

TJ Hoard – Class of 2010

TJ Hoard was an outstanding golfer for Harper Creek. He played on the varsity golf team for four years. He was a member of the All-City and All-League teams for three years and was an All-City medalist in 2010. His team won a district championship in 2009 and qualified to play in the state finals in 2009 and 2010, earning All-State Honors in 2010. Hoard also earned a school record with a season average score of 37.1. TJ continued his golf career at Brevard College where he earned two college letters.

Deb Look – Teacher/Coach

A long-time teacher and coach in Harper Creek, Deb Look is best known as the “Voice of the Beavers” for 40 years, as an announcer for boys’ and girls’ basketball games. Now retired, Look worked in Harper Creek for 44 years.
