I-70 Football Show: A new association of college football players

Welcome to a new episode of the Land-Grant Holy Land I-70 Podcast. On this show, we talk about all things Big Ten football and basketball. After each week of action, we’ll update you on all the conference games and look at the matchups, storylines, and players you should pay attention to next week. My name is Jordan Williams and I am accompanied by my co-host Dante Morgan.

After a witty argument about whether the show should be called I-80 Football Show, we enter Penn State starting quarterback Sean Clifford hoping to lead the charge of a new association of college football players with Penn State at the forefront. Clifford and the association have entered into talks with the Big Ten regarding health insurance for post-career sports-related injuries, a representative on each campus to support students and advocate especially around medical conversations and revenue sharing of the media rights agreement. The guys discuss what a players association might look like and whether players should unionize. Plus they explain how revenue sharing could work, is it fair if only football players get paid? What would it look like for all athletes to benefit from revenue sharing?

After a brief chat about the future of the XFL and USFL, the guys wrap up the Big Ten schedule preview. It’s time for the Big Ten to change their scheduling model because it’s tough! The best games of the last few weeks revolve around Iowa, Minnesota, Purdue and Wisconsin. After a remarkably close race in 2021, the fight to win the Big Ten West should be exciting as the champion will be decided in the final weeks.

During their weekly pit stops, Jordan is looking for a support group since he plans to buy Madden 23. He can’t help but buy it every year despite the fact that he hardly changes and usually gets worse. Dante is anti-pre-order video games. After several video games have been released unfinished, Dante thinks it’s a waste to pre-order video games, especially when they haven’t released gameplay. Stay tuned because next week we begin our Season Preview where we break down teams into tiers and predict their records.
