It’s been looking for some time now that this would be the summer Jules Kounde left Sevilla and vice-captain Ivan Rakitic has all but confirmed the rumours.
Kounde was initially dropped from the Sevilla squad to travel to Portugal for a pre-season camp but eventually decided to travel with the squad. Speculation is reaching fever pitch that Koundé will move to Barcelona or chelsea. Rakitic, speaking to Mediaset, was not one to be shy about the situation.
“We speak with him in order to make things normal. What exactly are we going to say to the boy, he does not say. He needs to have some fun with us. We are grateful that he came with us, we all know his situation, you don’t have to be a genius, so we have to give him lots of love.
Mark reported his comments, with the Croatian candid about the reality of Sevilla and their transfer strategy. He may also have hinted at Koundé’s next destination.
“Diego’s sale [Carlos] was very significant [we have to] once again congratulate the club. Let’s see what happens with Jules, but it shows that the club are doing very well. It’s normal that we can’t compete with the strength of the Premier League, you have to understand that. Sevilla have always been like that, it’s good for the players, for the club, and you have to give all your affection to those who arrive so that they can do things for the best, like Diego or Jules.
Rakitic’s words suggest Kounde could be set to swap La Liga for the Premier League, rather than move to Barcelona. However, in the context of the sale of Diego Carlos, it could have been a more general point too.
His statements, however, show Sevilla’s maturity when it comes to big fish chasing their stars. As someone who has himself been at the center of such a movement, few are better placed to comment on the matter.
