Manchester United’s latest manager as Red Devils win Champions League group, Pochettino ‘happy’ at PSG but approaching expected, interim talks with Valverde, Chelsea beat Juventus but suffered double injury

The post Ole Gunnar Solskjaer era at Manchester United started with a win, but the club’s search for a new manager is intensifying.

‘Acting’ boss Michael Carrick guided the Red Devils to a 2-0 win over Villarreal on Tuesday night, as United booked their place in the Champions League round of 16.

Despite the former star’s promising start, it looks like United bosses will learn from previous mistakes and continue their search for a proven and top-class next manager.

Mauricio Pochettino has responded that he is linked to the role, saying he is “happy” at Paris Saint-Germain, but talkSPORT understands that PSG are still waiting for a formal approach despite the manager’s comments.

It is also claimed that United are “in talks” with Ernesto Valverde, but will drop those plans with the former Barcelona boss if they can secure a deal for Poch on the line.

Away from Manchester, reigning European champions Chelsea also had a fine evening in the Champions League with a 4-0 victory over Juventus, but it came at a cost with N’Golo Kante and Ben Chilwell forced to injure themselves in the knee.
