Other Cheboygan girls who raced included Zelia Hill (22nd, 28:36), Nola Ecker (30th, 30:26), Kodi Crane (34th, 32:29) and Penelope Baltiz (38th, 33:47).

On the boys’ side, Steve Ramsby finished 20th with a time of 22:24.

“Overall, all of our runners got better places in this competition,” said Cheboygan coach Sandy Safford. “I told them they wanted a spot. Steven Ramsby moved up to 20th place which is a big plus point for him. He’ll have to have a really strong SAC 3 race and be 15th or 16th. Sammy Harke ran solidly. Her goal was to be in the top 10, and she did. She will be vying for the first team all conferences, depending on how she races at Rudyard for our last SAC 3 race. Alexia McCarthy also improved its place from 16th to 13th in this race.

In the girls’ college race, Isabella Hingston led Cheboygan in third, Cloee Rupp was seventh, Presley Chamberlain eighth, Briahna Campbell 11th and Myah Hingston 16th.

Carson Kiefer led the boys from Cheboygan Middle School with an 11th place finish. Andrew Carson, Ben Groya and Alex Hudson finished 13th, 16th and 18th respectively.

Rushing offense reigns again for Bulldogs to win in Forest Area

FIFE LAKE – A strong running game was the recipe for success once again for the Inland Lakes Bulldogs, who improved to 5-0 with a 53-0 shutout win in Forest Area on Friday, September 24. .

Of their 516 total yards on the night, 410 fell to the ground for the Bulldogs (5-0, 3-0 Ski Valley 8-Man Conference), who received 94 yards and a Grant Blumke touchdown, 92 yards and a touchdown from Austin Brege and a TD from 69 yards from Sam Mayer.

Connor Knight led the IL passing game with 72 yards and two touchdowns, one going to Jacob Willey for 38 yards and another to Brege for 20 yards. Knight also recorded 34 rushing yards and one scoring.

Mayer led the Bulldogs defensively with eight tackles. while Grant Blumke had five and Willey added four.

Inland Lakes, now 5-0 for a second straight season, will host Whittemore-Prescott in a non-conference competition this Saturday at 1 p.m.
