Virginia Tech Head Football Coach Justin fuente and Assistant Sports Director for Strength and Conditioning Ben Hilgaart added Jaylan reid as Deputy Director of Football Strength and Conditioning Staff. The announcement was made on Monday.
Reid spent the last season working as a graduate assistant at Georgia State. The Furman graduate also worked as a strength and conditioning intern for his alma mater.
The former two-sport athlete was a starter for four years on the Paladins’ defensive line, winning the captain position in his last two years. He was also a two-time All-Southern Conference player. In total, Reid has played 45 games, winning 43 starts. He tallied 120 total tackles, 18.5 loss tackles, 6.0 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and 1 fumble return.
The 5-foot-11, 278-pound nose guard won the Iron Paladin Award, awarded to the player most dedicated to strength and conditioning during the 2018-19 offseason. A similar honor to the Hard Hat Award winner presented by Virginia Tech.
Reid also participated in track and field. He won the shot put title in 2017 and took home three All-Southern Conference honors.
Reid will replace Marc Lewis, who has left to become an assistant professor of exercise physiology at Valdosta State.
