VSU requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination to attend football games

RICHMOND, Virginia (WRIC) – Virginia State University has announced that anyone attending one of its sporting events will be required to show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination to enter.

VSU said this new policy will take effect immediately and apply to participants aged 18 and over. The university will accept vaccination cards or general records as well as a photo ID.

“Right now our campus has an infection rate of less than 1%. Our goal is to maintain or even reduce our already low positivity rate with the goal of completely eradicating the virus on campus, ”said Peggy Davis, VSU’s associate vice president for intercollegiate athletics. “At all times, the safety of our students comes first and this step shows once again that this is our priority. ”

Masks will always be required in all outdoor areas of the college, unless someone is actively eating or drinking.

This is just the university’s latest directive on the COVID-19 vaccine. In August, VSU announced that all students and staff should be vaccinated against the virus or seek a religious or medical exemption. Those granted an exemption must be tested for COVID-19 twice a week.

The latest set of guidelines will be applied in VSU’s return game against Lincoln University on October 23 at Rogers Stadium.
